Proton X90 Lite vs Prime vs Prime X: Which Variant Should You Choose?

Proton X90 Lite vs Prime vs Prime X comparison

The Proton X90 is positioned as Proton’s true 7-seater SUV. It is not simply a larger SUV—the cabin is designed to provide more usable and comfortable space for third-row passengers.

With its larger dimensions and family-focused design, the Proton X90 is built mainly around space and seating comfort. In Malaysia, it is available in three variants: Lite, Prime and Prime X.

One important point is that the X90 range does not come with a full ADAS package, while its technology and safety features are relatively basic. Its main focus is space, comfort and family use.

Proton X90 Lite

The Proton X90 Lite is the base variant, but its overall equipment is still quite complete.

It already comes with LED headlamps, leatherette seats, seven USB ports and essential safety features.

In simple terms, the Lite is not the most technology-focused variant, but its comfort and equipment are already sufficient for everyday family use.

Proton X90 Prime

The Proton X90 Prime mainly adds smaller convenience and technology upgrades on top of the Lite, rather than making a major change to space or seating comfort.

These upgrades include Auto Headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, a 360° HD camera with transparent view, the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and front parking sensors.

In simple terms, the Prime makes daily driving and parking more convenient. However, its overall space, seating layout and comfort are still quite similar to the Lite.

Proton X90 Prime X

The upgrade becomes more obvious with the Proton X90 Prime X.

The second row uses two individual captain seats instead of a connected bench seat. This makes the second row more comfortable and also creates a walkway to the third row.

The Prime X also comes with ergonomic headrests and ventilated seats for the first and second rows, making it the most comfort-focused variant in the X90 range.

Conclusion

The differences between the Proton X90 variants are mainly in convenience and seating comfort, rather than major safety or technology upgrades.

The Lite already provides the essential space and comfort needed for a 7-seater family SUV. The Prime adds more convenience features for daily driving, while the Prime X offers the most noticeable upgrade with second-row captain seats, ventilated seats and better seating comfort.

There is no single variant that I strongly recommend. The best choice depends on how much convenience and second-row comfort you need. If the captain seats and ventilated seats are not important to you, the Lite or Prime may already be enough.
