Proton eMAS 5 Variants from Prime to Premium: Which Variant Should You Choose?
The Proton e.MAS 5 is one of the most affordable EVs in Malaysia, with the highest variant priced at just over RM70,000.
It is a good choice for first-time EV buyers who want to experience electric driving without spending too much. The main strengths of the Proton e.MAS 5 EV are its affordable price, modern technology and youthful design, all in one package.
The Proton e.MAS 5 is available in two variants: Prime and Premium. The main differences in specification are the driving range, convenience features and ADAS safety system.
Proton e.MAS 5 Prime
The Proton e.MAS 5 Prime comes with a shorter WLTP driving range and fewer convenience features compared with the Premium.
It still has useful features for daily use, but the overall technology package is more limited. The ADAS system is also less complete than the Premium variant.
In simple terms, the Prime feels like a more basic, less technology-focused EV with a shorter driving range. In my opinion, it feels more like a variant created mainly to offer a lower entry price. With its limited range and features, I would not personally recommend it for regular daily use.
Proton e.MAS 5 Premium
For me, the Proton e.MAS 5 Premium is the variant that truly represents what the e.MAS 5 is meant to be: an affordable EV built mainly for city driving.
With a 325 km WLTP driving range, it is more than enough for normal city use. It also comes with more convenience features, making the car feel noticeably more modern, while the ADAS safety system is also more complete.
The Premium is currently the more popular choice among e.MAS 5 buyers, offering a more complete EV experience while still keeping the price affordable.
Conclusion
I personally do not recommend the Prime, mainly because of its 225 km WLTP driving range, which can feel quite limiting for daily use.
If you are seriously considering the Proton e.MAS 5, I would recommend going straight for the Premium. You get more technology, a more complete ADAS safety system and a safer 325 km WLTP driving range for everyday use.
